Aleksejs Naumovs is known as a virtuoso of colorful scenes inspired by the southern countries, whose direct landscape shots are both illusory and realistic, brilliantly confirming the presence of free, loose and vital painting in contemporary art. His style of painting is characterized by bright, nuanced colors, dynamic stroke, lightness permeated, virtuosic line that aptly conjures up the sense of the moment of the depicted environment. In Naumov's atmospheric landscapes, one can trace the virtuosity impulse of his teachers - the outstanding Latvian masters Eduards Kalniņš and Induļis Zariņš, which Naumovs realizes in a la prima technique only in his own characteristic color in a series of finely cultivated tonal relationships.

Aleksejs Naumovs paints quickly, capturing the mood of world cities in one go - Venice, Burano, Cape Town, Washington, Paris, Riga and other places. He can be called the most prominent plein artist in contemporary Latvian art. The exhibition "Birthday" consists of his latest works.

"Birthday" in DAUGAVA Gallery starts this year's series of exhibitions, which will continue in Rundāle, Tallinn, Jūrmala, Kuldīga and is dedicated to the artist's important anniversary.

Aleksejs Naumovs was born in 1955, graduated from the Janis Rozentāls Riga Art High School, the Department of Monumental Painting of the Latvian Academy of Arts under the guidance of professor Induļis Zariņš, and a creative post-graduate course in the master workshop of professor Eduards Kalniņš. Was a scholarship holder of the French government, studying painting in Paris. Professor, rector of the Latvian Academy of Arts (2007-2017). Aleksejs Naumovs has been participating in exhibitions since 1979. Has held more than 50 personal exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions around the world. Awarded the Latvian State Cross of Merit, the Ordine al Merito della Repubblica of the Italian government, the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres of the French government.
